Percentage growth is frequently used to measure changes in sales, revenue, customers, website traffic, users, and other business metrics.
Percentage Growth Formula
Use:
Growth Percentage = ((Current Value − Previous Value) ÷ Previous Value) × 100
Suppose a website grows from 40,000 monthly visitors to 50,000.
Difference:
50,000 − 40,000 = 10,000
Then:
(10,000 ÷ 40,000) × 100 = 25%
Traffic grew by 25%.
Revenue Growth Example
Revenue increases from $100,000 to $115,000.
Increase:
115,000 − 100,000 = 15,000
Then:
(15,000 ÷ 100,000) × 100 = 15%
Revenue growth is 15%.

Growth Percentage Needs Context
Always specify the period being compared.
Monthly growth, quarterly growth, and year-over-year growth can produce very different results even when they describe the same business.
